Program Overview

The Chinese Immersion Program at Prasan Gateway International School enhances students' Chinese language proficiency through an interdisciplinary, project-based learning approach. The curriculum aligns with the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), ensuring seamless integration with English subjects for balanced bilingual development.
 

Program Schedule

• After-School Sessions: 2 times a week, 1.5 hours per session (Total: 3 hours)

• In-School Sessions: Twice a week, 100 minutes

• Total Weekly Hours: Approximately 4 hours 40 minutes
   

Program Levels

• Basic Level: Suitable for Kindergarten to Grade 3 students

• Intermediate Level: Suitable for Grade 4 to Grade 6 students
   

Teaching Approach

✔ Immersive Learning – Classes are conducted entirely in Chinese, allowing students to acquire the language naturally in real-life contexts.
✔ Project-Based Learning – Engaging activities such as STEAM projects, picture book reading, and cultural experiences reinforce language skills.
✔ Cross-Disciplinary Integration – Topics align with IPC units, ensuring consistency across subjects and a deeper understanding of themes.
 

Course Structure

📌 Language Lesson (35 minutes) – Teaching key Chinese vocabulary and expressions related to the day’s theme.
📌 Activity Session (55 minutes) – Applying language skills through STEAM activities, storytelling, and hands-on projects.
 

Assessment Methods

• Primary Level: Evaluated using the Youth Chinese Test (YCT), an internationally recognized exam for non-native Chinese learners.

• Kindergarten Level: End-of-year Chinese expression performances assess students' language fluency, interaction, and communication skills.
   

Parent Involvement

📖 Home Support – Parents are encouraged to create a Chinese learning environment through books, music, and TV programs.
