Primary Year 1-7

Our primary program combines the UK National Curriculum with the IPC framework, offering a safe and joyful environment for children aged 5 to 12. Here, young learners thrive and explore, fostering their growth and curiosity.

Globally Recognised IPC Curriculum

The Primary Curriculum (IPC) offers a robust and engaging learning experience through a genuine thematic approach. Aiming to equip learners for a bright future, it emphasizes not just academic knowledge but also fosters the development of the entire child's personal qualities, including a sense of international mindedness.

Our program provides a pure Chinese-speaking environment, allowing students to joyfully and naturally acquire the language through interdisciplinary learning, project-based activities, and cultural events We have developed a fun and engaging curriculum based on the IPC framework, the Chinese national curriculum system, and the YCT syllabus.

Learning in Primary School

At our school, learning is a dynamic and personalized experience where students actively build upon their knowledge, skills, and attitudes. This process strengthens connections in the brain, deepens understanding, and encourages the application of learning in diverse contexts.

Our Curriculum Approach

We primarily follow the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), designed to help students reach their full potential. In addition, we integrate the UK National Curriculum, ensuring a seamless blend of both systems. Our school offers a structured progression from Year 1 to Year 7, with clear academic pathways that align with international standards. The IPC has been carefully cross-referenced with the UK Curriculum, and this alignment is available for review at our school.

Our Educational Goals

Through these curriculum frameworks, we strive to:

  • Cultivate lifelong learners with a passion for knowledge.

  • Provide a comprehensive, balanced, and academically rigorous curriculum.

  • Equip students with essential knowledge and skills for their future academic and personal success in the 21st century.

  • Ensure an inclusive environment where every child has equal opportunities, regardless of background.

  • Support students' spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development.

International Primary Curriculum (IPC)

What is the IPC?

The IPC is a globally recognized curriculum designed for learners from Early Years through Year 7. It fosters curiosity, develops key skills, and nurtures personal growth while preparing students for the challenges of the future.

Key Principles of Learning:

  • Learning is about making meaningful connections and understanding the bigger picture.

  • A calm and engaged mindset enhances learning.

  • Each learner has unique strengths, and our role is to challenge and support them effectively.

  • Diverse learning experiences help cater to different learning styles.

  • Deep thinking requires dedicated time and space.

  • Good health and well-being contribute to effective learning.

Keeping Parents Informed

At the start of each unit, teachers provide an overview of the topics covered and suggest ways for parents to support their child’s learning at home. Numeracy objectives are also shared every half-term. Additionally, class websites are updated weekly with upcoming learning content. Parents are encouraged to communicate with teachers, Milepost leaders, or the Head of Primary if they have questions about the curriculum.

Home Learning

Homework serves as a bridge between home and school, keeping parents engaged in their child's learning journey while fostering time management, responsibility, and independent work habits.

  • Early Years students take home reading books to enjoy with parents or guardians.

  • Milepost 1, 2, and 3 students receive weekly assignments that gradually increase in complexity.

  • Teachers ensure clear explanations accompany each task.

  • Reading is consistently encouraged, with class reading materials suited to each child's level.

Library Access

All primary students have regular opportunities to borrow books from the school library. They are required to renew or exchange their books weekly. Teachers and librarians provide guidance in research and library skills to enhance students' independent learning abilities.

Learning Goals

The IPC categorizes learning into three key areas:

  1. Personal Goals
These focus on qualities essential for the 21st century, shaping students into well-rounded individuals. Personal goals are integrated across the curriculum and school life.

  2. Subject Goals
These cover the knowledge and skills expected at different learning stages. While all goals are addressed over a Milepost, not every subject goal is covered in every theme.

  3. International Goals
The IPC uniquely emphasizes global awareness, encouraging students to:

    • Understand their own culture.

    • Recognize the interdependence between people and nations.

    • Appreciate both the differences and similarities across cultures and countries.

We foster these values through daily learning experiences and special Host Country Integration lessons, celebrating various cultural events and traditions.

Developing Global Awareness

Throughout their primary education, students engage in a well-rounded, stimulating curriculum designed to prepare them for a diverse world.

Our school defines International Mindedness as:
"An understanding of ourselves as part of a global community, with respect for and appreciation of its diversity."

By instilling these principles, we empower students to navigate an interconnected world with confidence, empathy, and a lifelong enthusiasm for learning.
